Puffiness around or below the eyes occur in both young and old men and women, but it is more common with age due to the fact that with aging, the tissues and muscles that surround the eye weaken and therefore sag. Fat, which supports the eyes normally, can shift forward into the lower eyelids and this leads to bags under the eyes.. Despite the fact that eye bags under the eyes are rarely an indicator of a serious medical problem, it can be a source of distress for individuals who place importance on aesthetics.

Other causes Aside from aging, puffiness around or below the eye can also be caused by hypersensitivity reactions, particularly if redness and itching happens concomitantly with the formation of the eye bag. The region below the eye can also retain fluid as a result of hormones or eating salty food too much. In our body, the thinnest skin is found around the eye, therefore fluid changes are apparent in these regions. Furthermore, fatigue, particularly from disturbed sleeping pattern, also brings about bags under the eyes.

The position with which you sleep in can also trigger eye bag. When you sleep on your side or if you lie on your belly, fluid shifts forward and fill out the space under your eyes. For some, eye bags can also be familial in nature.

Cure for eye bags

Treatment really depends on what precipitated the puffiness. For instance, if the eye bag is caused by fatigue, then you must get enough sleep, which is approximately 7-8 hours for grownups. If allergies or infections are the root causes behind the situation, treating those will help make the area around your eyes less puffy. Try to sleep on your back as well so you will not have early morning eye bag formation .

A cool compress applied around the eye for a number of minutes can also help reduce the swelling. Moreover, lower your salt in your diet. Don't just reduce your consumption of table salt, but also products thatare laden with salt. Products and procedures, like chemical peels and laser resurfacing, which help tighten the skin can also reduce the puffiness under the eyes. If your bags under the eyes are significant, and makes you feel less confident about yourself, you may also consider eyelid surgery wherein the cosmetic surgeon removes excess fat or drooping skin.
